In the old days, say 15 years ago, a big company would hire someone like Jason Widjaja – a shy soul with a talented analytical mind – and leave him in a room with a bunch of complicated problems to solve.

But in his first two years working for a management consulting firm, Widjaja found that being good at the technical side of the job he’d trained for –  as a strategic business analyst – wasn’t enough.

“I think I got great marks for the quality of work I was turning out,” he says, “but I was marked down in terms of adding value to meetings, workshops, interviews and all those areas where you needed to express and articulate your thoughts more clearly.”
