Are hard trade skills or prestigious degrees the most important attribute hiring managers look out for when hiring entry-level employees?
According to a new survey by Instructure however, it is neither.
Polling around 750 managers at U.S companies across various industries, the survey found that a majority of respondents placed the highest importance on soft skills such as work ethics when considering new candidates for entry-level positions
While 85% of those polled said that work ethic is the most essential consideration when hiring, almost all managers said they look for candidates with the right attitude.
The survey suggested hiring personnel place immense importance on such soft skills because they are “difficult or impossible to be taught.”
On the flip side, the least important trait identified was a candidate’s place of schooling (79%).
